Debut vocal recital of Shenuk Wijesinghe

He began his journey in singing at the age of five with Prashalini Peiris where he had his first steps and basics. 

 

 

‘’My Tribute’’ will be presented today at the Lionel Wendt Theatre at 7.15pm. ‘’My Tribute’’ is a collaboration with Soundarie David Rodrigo and  Neranjan de Silva with Christo Prins on drums.
 Shenuk will be accompanied by two guest artists Nadine Ollegasegrem and Hemal Kuruvitaarachchi and backed by The Soul Sounds Academy Choir and Harmonix Choir of the Soul Sounds Academy. 
Shenuk Wijesinghe completed his primary and secondary education at Lyceum International School Wattala. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Honours in International Business Management from Staffordshire University London.


He began his journey in singing at the age of five with Prashalini Peiris where he had his first steps and basics. Identifying his passion and talent for singing, he joined the Soul Sounds Academy at the age of eight under the guidance of Soundarie David Rodrigo where he excelled and was a high scorer at the Royal School of Music London Examinations.
Shenuk has earned the prestigious Associate title from the Royal School of London in singing (ARSM) under the tutelage of Soundarie David Rodrigo and Chi Hoe Mak who has also been his vocal coach since 2020.


Vocal competition

In 2021, Shenuk received a diploma as the winner in the vocal competition for the age group 18 to 20 at the Ninth International JSFest vocal competition in Finland. Furthermore, he clinched a gold medal and emerged as the category winner in the Solo Singing competition within the Classical music category at the Bali International Choral Festival in 2023. He was awarded the Arts and Culture (Music) Award in 2023 at the Fourth New Generation Awards held by the Women in Management (WIM) and the National Youth Service Council Sri Lanka.
He also got the opportunity to participate in the Malaysian Coral Eisteddfod in November 2023.


Shenuk had the honour of performing before The President and the First Lady, at the President’s House in 2023.
He appears as a guest soloist with Sri Lanka’s all-female premier award-winning choir “Soul Sounds” from time to time.
Shenuk is also a pianist, having started piano lessons from the very tender age of four under Shirani Weerakkody and is currently preparing for the Associate Diploma in piano from the London College of Music.


Growing up in an artistic environment from his infant days in the hands of his mum Shehanika Wijesinghe who is a speech, drama and piano teacher, Shenuk was raised in a world of speech and drama where he shone brightly receiving many awards and accolades. He holds the prestigious Associate title from the Wendy Whatmore Academy of Speech and Drama (AWWA - Teachers Diploma) under the guidance of Tamara Holsinger.
He was also acknowledged with the Best Actor’s Award from the Wendy Whatmore academy in 2022 and currently preparing for the Associate Diploma from the Trinity College London.


Currently Shenuk is a teacher at the Wendy Whatmore Academy of Speech and Drama and a Vocal Coach at the Soul Sounds Academy. He is also the Choral Conductor along with Soundarie David Rodrigo at Musaeus College Colombo. He also directs his own Academy in Wattala.
