Evan

When I was born:
Rosy cheeked,
Delicate features tinted pink,
Like a rosebud - before bloom.
I was Evan, a young warrior to be!
As God said:
I was the chosen one,
To unite family and friends,
To make them praise His name -
I was His special gift.
I grew day by day,
And oh!  though different,
And immobile in life - I was happy,
I couldn’t tell you, but I felt your love,
In how you cared for me,
You never made me feel like a burden
You were forced to bear,
Never left me out,
And Nangi and her cats
Made me feel I was never alone.
As days stretched to years;
I felt the sunshine like I felt your joy,
I felt your tears like the April rain,
Comforting and sustaining me with love.
I felt your prayers to my Creator God,
Like stars lighting the dark sky.
I felt the soft winds like your strength -
Whipping up the waves of my life
To frothy foam of delicate hope,
As it spreads along the never ending shore.
Finally one day – nearly fourteen years after,
God called me back.
Now happy in his care I can;
Laugh, talk, sing, run, dance.
My playmates, now angels.
I pray, my family won’t cry for me.
As nightly, I bend over my parents in their beds;
To kiss them, bless them, in their sleep,
And play with Nanga in her dreams,
Until we all meet again !
