Giant Black Bees guarding Aukana Buddha Statue

The honey combs of the bees have been built on the elbow of the right hand in the Buddha statute

 The Aukana Buddha Statue has been given ‘Natural Protection’ by a group comprising giant black bees. With these insects making hives, people have been prevented from acts that are detrimental to this standing Buddha statue. 
The Aukana Buddha Statue is said to have been carved by two brothers.  But, the younger brother had not agreed with his elder sibling; hence he is reported to have left home and made another statue.

In recent times, it is reported that when the Kalawewa railway line was being built a worker named Punchi Banda, who was serving Foreman Plate Layer (FPL) had seen a head above a rock with a crow standing on head of this structure. FPL had immediately reported to the British Engineer what had been witnessed.  He had immediately contacted Archaeological Commissioner Bell who without wasting time ‘broke ‘ into the thick jungle and then found this giant Aukana Buddha Statute.
There had been a controversy of donning a yellow robe over the statue; which has a carved robe. Though they claim it was only for a few hours, yet it is against the law, according to Archaeological authorities.
Now ‘Natural Protection’ has been provided to the statue by giant black bees, who have built nests on this structure (as shown in the Photograph). 
The honey combs of the bees have been built on the elbow of the right hand in the Buddha statute.
