Sri Lanka celebrated World Children’s Day on October 1. This special day offered an opportunity to the ‘Colombo Chapter’ of The Management Council of the Alumni Association of the University (AAUP) of Peradeniya to promote and celebrate children’s rights.

The Management Council selected the Katumuluwa Junior School, Kanaththewewa in Paduwasnuwara Division of Kuliyapitiya Zone in North Western Province to enhance the library facilities of the school on the World Children’s Day.

The Colombo Chapter of AAUP donated 450 books, stationery and school supplies to the School Library and students.

In addition, the donation made in the form of two gymnastic mattresses will be immensely helpful to the school team, selected to represent the North Western Province at the forthcoming All Island School Aerobic Gymnastics Tournament. Such donations, which raise the standard of sports, provide children with talents with an opportunity to be recognized.

These donations were made on World Children’s Day at this school. Representatives of the Association together with the principal, the staff members of the school, students and parents were present at the occasion. A tree was planted at the school premises to commemorate the event.

Ven. Galahapitiye Premarathne commended the activities of AAUP Colombo Chapter for coming forward to promote the physical and mental well-being of the children. States Association’s Secretary Palitha Siyambalapitiya was also present.
