Amarapiya Memorial Elders’ Care Centre at Uda-Mapitigama in Dompe is one out of two elders’ centres dedicated to the Visually Impaired. The centre is managed by Sri Lanka Buddhist Association for the Blind in Yakkala.
The centre at present caters for 12 visually impaired elders and the management has planned to expand their services. The management hopes to cater to youth who are visually impaired and seek ‘shelter’. The same philanthropist, who donated his land and house for this centre, took another step last week to expand the place.
Accordingly, the foundation stone was laid for the extension on march 13. The management welcomes the assistance of philanthropists to complete the new construction so that the centre can serve more people.
