In their movie, film directors Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière offer us a breath-taking adaptation of nineteenth century prolific writer Alexandre Dumas’s 1844 epic novel of the same name, Le Comte de Monte-Cristo. It tells the story of young Edmond Dantès, arrested on his wedding day for a crime he didn’t commit. After fourteen years of being incarcerated in the island prison of Château d’If, the man makes a daring escape. Immensely wealthy, the ‘Count of Monte-Cristo’ returns to France under an assumed name, seeking vengeance on those who betrayed him.
Produced by the renowned French film company Pathé and released in June 2024, the film was considered as one of the most eagerly awaited releases this summer in France.
