SLIID to hold 35th AGM tomorrow

The 35th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Sri Lanka Institute of Interior Designers (SLIID) will be held tomorrow from 9.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.at the CHPB Auditorium, 33, Parliament Road, Battaramulla (passing Ape Gama and next to the Water Board).    


Speaker Karu Jayasuriya will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and Professor Nimal de Silva as Guest of Honour. 


Swarna Obeyesekere, the pioneer to introduce interior designing to Sri  Lanka, developed her interest from school days at Visakha Vidyalaya. She joined the Ceylon-Japan Society Youth Auxiliary as a founder member in 1963 and later held the post of Secretary. She won an AOTS Scholarship to Japanin 1971 and on her return to Sri  Lanka launched courses on interior designing and Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement) in 1972. 


Subsequently, the Association of Interior Designers requested for Parliament Incorporation and the Sri Lanka Institute of Interior Designers was formed by Act No. 2 of 1998.
