SOS Children’s Villages cry for support as donations dwindle under pandemic

Children are invaluable assets to any nation. It is the rightful duty of any parent to ensure their child is brought up well so he or she may successfully get integrated into society and be a productive individual.
Unfortunately, some unfortunate children do not get the blessing of being cared for by parents, thus being orphaned.
They end up without parental care, inevitably winding up in very unfavourable situations. Who will take care of such children? Fortunately, these children are not without hope.
SOS Children’s Villages, which is an independent non-governmental organisation, has been silently working in Sri Lanka to ensure such children do not get abandoned and end up in vulnerable situations or be victimized.

"The coronavirus pandemic has badly affected donations which this organisation depends on, to care for children in need. Since this pandemic is a global crisis, continuity of foreign donations too is at risk"

With over seventy years of global expertise in childcare, SOS Children’s Villages can provide the best alternative care for children who have lost their parents due to various reasons including but not limited to financial instability, family breakdown, psycho-social factors, poverty etc. Using their extensive expertise, this organisation has developed a program which incorporates all necessities a parentless child would need to grow up and be a healthy young adult.
This is known as ‘Family Like Care’. This is a care solution in which an orphaned child is given the best alternative care very similar to a normal family setting by providing the child with a loving home, a caring mother, supportive siblings, and a safe community to grow up in. In Sri Lanka, there are six SOS Children’s Villages.
They are located in Piliyandala, Galle, Monaragala, Nuwara-Eliya, Anuradhapura, and Jaffna.

However, the coronavirus pandemic has badly affected donations which this organisation depends on, to care for children in need. Since this pandemic is a global crisis, continuity of foreign donations too is at risk.
Therefore, SOS Children’s Villages is reaching out to all Sri Lankans for support in caring for children without parental care in Sri Lanka, especially in this time of crisis. Supporting children of today is supporting the generation of tomorrow. You may contact 076 32 7422 or 0718 693 208 to know more about ways to help.
