The demise of a great teacher with a golden heart

It is sad to hear the passing away of Mrs. Soma Suriyaarachchi, former teacher of Ananda College, Colombo on July 11during the turbulent times we had in Sri Lanka. A lot of her friends, relations and students were unaware of her demise due to the state of the country and were un able to attend her funeral.

Mrs. Suriyaarachchi was born on October 2, 1932 and had a lifespan of 90s years.  She hailed from Yakkala and she schooled at Henegama Central College. She later entered  training college and started her career in teaching at Ananda College.  Except for 2 years at Rathnawali Balika Vidyalaya at Gampaha, she was teaching at Ananda College until her retirement in early nineteen nineties.

Since her husband, Mr. Abeywardene Suriyaarachchi from Gonahena, Kadawatha had passed away, she was living with her daughter, Ms. Janani. I am sure that most of her students and friends still do not know about her demise; in July 2022.

I have come to know that the pinkama held three-months after her death and held in memory of her was scheduled for October 11. I wish to convey our sympathies to her children, Aruna, Madhu and Jananni and we pray  that she will attain the ultimate bliss of Nirvana.
