The last post

To refer to this tribute as a last post would not be inappropriate as he marks the 50th death anniversary of our dada who served as postmaster for several years in various areas.
Though he was not a committed member, he followed the sixth of the eight talks in the Apostolate of Renewal in the catholic church. On his birthday May 29, 1973 he said this might be his last birthday. He died on October 31 of that year. On November 2, All Souls Day, the Apostolate of Renewals Spiritual Director Rev. Fr Oscar Abeyaratne visited our Moratuwa home to pay his last respects and said it was a blessed day to pass away from this worldly state of life to the Heavenly state.
His second daughter the late Laurinda Jayasuriya, in a tribute to mark our dada’s 30th death anniversary, wrote this poem titled; “Cherished memories of her generous heart”

“Thirty long years have passed since you left us but every day we bow our heads and pray
That your soul gains eternal rest.
With open arms, you did embrace all who came
With a generous heart, you entertained everyone
Neither a frown nor a grumble to feed those who came anytime to your home sweet home
May your soul rest in the bosom of our Heavenly Father
We long very much to meeting you some day,
Till then may you enjoy divine love and peace
And receive the two reward-the crown of glory

Indeed, as Laurinda has written our dada had a generous spirit though he was not wealthy and did not even own a house.

He was educated at St Aloysius’ College in Galle and in he Jesuit  spirit, he willingly shared with others from the little that he had.
He was also a strict disciplinarian and most family members were subjected to strict discipline. He wrote deeply spiritual poems titled such as “Awake brother awake, Awake for thy call" and “To Our Sacramental Jesus”.

Till we meet, till we meet, till we meet at Jesus’ feet

God be with you till we meet again.

Your Loving children, Malcolm Quintus, Joseph, Marie and Carmen (not forgetting the late Stepheny, and the late Laurinda)
