Vivekananda National College’s Annual English Day 2024 “Aurora” – A Grand Success

Vivekananda National College, Colombo, celebrated its much-anticipated Annual English Day 2024, ‘Aurora’, on November 22 2024 at the school main hall.
The event was a spectacular showcase of talent, creativity, and linguistic prowess by the students of the school.
The chief guest for the event was D.S.R.M. Premasirirathna, the DDE of English from the Zonal Education Office, Colombo, and the Guest of Honour was S. Chandramohan, the Chief Academic Officer of ICBT Campus, Colombo. Their presence added immense value to the occasion and inspired students to strive for greater heights in their academic and extracurricular pursuits.
The programme was coordinated under the guidance of Lydia Daniel, the school’s English Coordinator, and the leadership of the school Principal, M. Muventhan, the school’s Deputy Principal, Shanthakumar, and Vice principal, Gunasunthar, who has consistently supported and encouraged such initiatives to enrich students’ educational experience.

Engaging activities 

The event featured a variety of engaging activities, including drama performances, public speaking, and creative writing presentations. These activities not only highlighted the students’ proficiency in English but also nurtured their confidence and creative expression. The theme ‘Aurora’ symbolised a dawn of inspiration and enlightenment, reflecting the event’s purpose to motivate students to excel in their communication and language skills.
A highlight of the evening was the enthusiastic participation and support of the Old Students’ Association (OSA) of Vivekananda National College, whose generous contributions and continuous encouragement played a pivotal role in making the event a success. The school expresses its deepest gratitude to the OSA and all other sponsors who contributed to the funding of the event, including the lighting, sound systems, stage decorations, and other arrangements.
Special thanks are also extended to the parent community for their invaluable support. A Parents’ Committee formed ahead of the event helped raise the funds for the day, ensuring its smooth execution. The collective effort of parents, students, and staff highlights the unity and commitment that have been the hallmark of Vivekananda National College for nearly a century.

100th year 

As the school approaches its 100th year of excellence, the event served as a reminder of the institution’s legacy and its ongoing commitment to nurturing holistic development among its students. 
The principal also invited the OSA and all stakeholders to consider contributing further to the development of the school’s English Unit as part of the upcoming centenary celebrations, including the renovation of facilities and upgrading the learning environment for students and teachers alike.
