16-year-old schoolgirl delivers child

A 16-year-old schoolgirl in Buttala has delivered a child at Ragama Teaching Hospital.  

Buttala Police conducting investigations said she was a Grade Eleven student of a school in the area who had been in love with a 19-year-old.   

Her parents, realizing the girl was pregnant, had sent her to her grandmother’s house in Ragama. However, when she delivered the child, the hospital authorities had informed Buttala Police who initiated investigations and arrested the young man.   

The suspect was to be produced before Wellawaya Police yesterday. OIC Buttala Police W.M.J. Bandara is conducting further investigations.
