20 passengers injured in bus collision

More than 20 passengers were injured in a head-on collision between a private bus and an SLTB (Sri Lanka Transport Board) bus at Weweldeniya on the Colombo-Kandy highway last morning.

The injured were admitted to Watupitiwala and Warakapola Base Hospitals. A Kandy-bound SLTB bus from Panadura and a Colombo-bound private bus from Galenbindnuwewa were involved in the accident.

Police said the driver of one of the buses had fled from the scene after the incident, and steps were being taken to arrest him. The police with the help of the residents of the area rushed the injured to hospitals.

Traffic on the main highway had been obstructed for more than an hour. OIC Traffic IP Gamlath is conducting further investigations on the instructions of OIC Danowita Police IP R.A.G. Dushyantha Perera.
