70 houses submerge due to torrential rains in Narammala

About 70 houses in the Narammala Division had gone underwater owing to the torrential rains during the weekend displacing more than 200 people.   


Assistant Director of Kurunegala District Disaster Management Centre Viraj Disanayake said the displaced families were provided shelter in safer locations with the help of the Narammala Divisional Secretariat, Pradeshiya Sabha and Giriulla Police.   


Divisional Secretary M. R. M. Indran, SSP Kuliyapitiya Division- Mahinda Disanayake and OIC Giriulla Police had made arrangements to provide cooked meals to the displaced. 

 
Meanwhile, 33 houses had been damaged and one completely destroyed during heavy rains experienced in the Galle District.   


Asst. Director of the Galle District Disaster Management Centre Lt. Col. Indika Wickremesinghe said steps were being taken to mitigate any possible disastrous situation.   


He said  that the army and the navy were deployed in Neluwa, Thawalama and Nagoda areas endangered with possible flood threat due to the overflowing of the Ginganga.
