A weapon similar to one’s used by Al-Qaeda found in the possession of an underworld criminal

An automatic firearm, similar those used by the Al-Qaeda terrorist group, was found in the possession of an underworld gang member who was recently brought to Sri Lanka after being found hiding abroad, police said. The suspect, Vithanage Don Gitmal Binoy Dilshan, was arrested in Dubai and brought to Sri Lanka on August 29 by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department.During the investigation, authorities uncovered the firearm, along with a magazine and five live 5mm bullets, hidden under a culvert in the Dolowatta area of Matugama. 

The police said that a red notice had been issued for Dilshan by Interpol prior to his arrest.
