The revision application filed by the Attorney General (AG) challenging the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court order on granting bail to the former minister Rajitha Senaratne, was yesterday fixed for hearing on April 10 by the Colombo High Court.

When the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Thilakaratne, Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Dileepa Peiris appearing on behalf of the Attorney General, requested to set another date for the hearing because of his bad health condition.

Accordingly, the Colombo High Court Judge accepted the DSG’s request and fixed the revision application for hearing on April 10. Former Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne was arrested and remanded on December 2019, over the ‘white van’ press conference which was held before the presidential election, 2019.

However, even while in the remand custody he had received treatment at Lanka Hospital, Narahenpita due to his critical health condition.

On December 30, 2019, the Colombo Chief Magistrate had ordered the former minister to be released on bail.

In the revision application filed by the AG, it was mentioned that the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court has not taken into consideration the submissions provided by the prosecution before delivering the order to release the former minister on bail.
