The President and his government’s stance on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is welcomed, former MP Rajitha Senaratne said yesterday.

“President Anura Dissanayake in his historical throne speech said Sri Lanka has no option but to work with IMF. This means that his government has adopted the same economic policy for which former President Ranil Wickremesinghe stands for. Therefore, we welcome this remark made by the President, “ Dr. Senaratne told media.

He said the stance which President came out with regard to national issues is also welcomed.

“The President stressed that his government would never allow communal politics and religious extremism. It is these two factors which had caused destruction to the nation for decades. We are also happy that the JVP which used communal politics is finally coming out of it, “ he added.

Dr. Senaratne said his leader former President Ranil Wickremesinghe also holds the same views.

Responding to a question he said actions of Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa caused the debacle for the opposition at the last election.” Mr. Premadasa talked for about two hours in Parliament every day and did not let anyone else in SJB to make speeches. A good leader does not work alone but gets others in his camp to work as well. SJB became a weak party because of Mr. Premadasa, “ he added.
