Whilst stating that it is not clear whether the IMF will accept the letter given by China agreeing to grant a debt moratorium to Sri Lanka , the Samagi Jana Balawegaya yesterday offered active support in discussion with China and others to achieve Sri Lanka’s objectives,  “Let all the parties sit together and discuss the issue, All SJB MPs are ready to extend their support in this regard,” SJB MP Harsha de Silva told a media briefing.

“We were happy to see assurances coming from India and China on debt restructuring but it is not clear what Sri Lanka needs to do in this regard,” he said.   “It was informed that Sri Lanka has agreed to convert primary balance to 0,7 from the current level of – 4 percent. This has to be done by increasing the revenue or decreasing expenditure. The next alternative is to increase revenue and decrease expenditure at the same time. It is not clear what the government is going to do in this regard,” he said.

“ Sri Lanka also has to look into its gross financial need and has to grapple with this and the primary balance in order to secure IMF assistance. This is not going to be easy,” he said.
