With the festive season around the corner, the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced a spate of nationwide raids to protect shoppers and ensure fair trade practices.
The drive is expected to commence from December 15, covering a variety of businesses, ranging from large wholesale outlets and warehouses to small retail shops. Speaking of the planned mass raids, CAA Director Asela Bandara said the campaign is designed to crackdown on the sale of expired products and other violations that could jeopardize consumer safety.
In addition to food and beverage outlets, stores selling clothing, electronics, and other high-demand items will also be inspected.
Special attention will be given to mobile vendors and businesses running large-scale seasonal sales, as they are often prone to unfair practices during peak shopping periods.
Furthermore, the CAA has called on the public to remain vigilant and report any cases of expired goods, deceptive advertising, or substandard products. Complaints can be lodged via the authority’s hotline at 1977.
