Leader of United Democratic Voice and former parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake said the government should not have taken back the ambulance used by former President Mahinda Rajapakse in view of his health condition and that the step taken by the government could be interpreted as political victimization.

He told the media in Chilaw that the former President was not a personal friend of his but despite whatever allegations , the former President was the leader who ended the north east war. The media conference had been organised by the candidates of United Democratic Voice contesting the general election for the Puttalam district.

Replying to queries from the media the former Parliamentarian said he was pleased with the ongoing activities of the present government and that his party would not obstruct them in any manner. The steps taken by the government to curtail privileges provided to the former Presidents and their wives was commendable and he did not have any argument against it.

“ However I would not appreciate the retaking of the ambulance used by the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa . I request President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to consider the former President’s health condition and return the ambulance. Even though I was made to serve a jail term , I have no animosity with anyone responsible for it. In fact I must thank them. I am pleased to have had an opportunity to be in prison where I gained much experience. I am proud that I served a jail term for speaking the truth. Drug traffickers, racketeers, and robbers have been prominent the field of politics and it should end ” He further said.

The candidates of the party contesting for the Puttalam District were present at the occasion.
