A delay in appointing 50,000 graduates to permanent posts was highlighted at a discussion headed with the Minister of State Administration, Internal Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Bandara Tennakoon.These graduates had been recruited to the public service due to the shortage of staff.
This information had been revealed by Trade Union Representative to the Minister at a meeting held on assumption of his duties at the Ministry.
The minister has instructed them to employ officers from the former President’s staff, if staff shortage was the reason behind the delay in appointing staff to permanent posts.
500 officers of the former President’s staff had been attached to the Ministry of State Administration.
Trade union representatives have also pointed out that the lack of service minutes for post of Development Officer had affected their service.
The Minister has instructed the authorities to produce a draft required to establish service minutes.
They have also pointed out that not holding Efficiency Bar examinations effectively had resulted in the delay in granting promotions and salary increments to
public officers.
The Minister has responded that he would discuss the matter with the Examinations Department and take measures to hold examinations on time.
