Beedi leaves seized

A consignment of beedi leaves smuggled into the country from India was seized in transit and two suspects arrested during a raid at Mutupanthiya village yesterday afternoon by Arachchikattuwa police.   

One of them was a leading businessman of the area. Under interrogation he said the stock of beedi leaves was valued at more than Rs. 3.2 million.   

The suspects were to be produced before the Chilaw magistrate.   
Police team under OIC Arachchikattuwa R.M.S.M.Ratnayake had carried out the raid.
