The incumbent government’s move to borrow from banks for state expenditure will shoot up prices of essential goods, United National Party (UNP) Deputy Leader and New Democratic Front (NDF) Gampaha District candidate Ruwan Wijewardene said during the weekend.

“We don’t have any intention of sabotaging the present government. Incumbent President Anura Kumara Dissanayake should be given some time to implement his new policies. However one cannot be satisfied with some decisions which his administration has already taken. The government is actually borrowing from banks. This has made the prices of essential goods to shoot up to some extent. We remember that former MP Sunil Handunetti said during the Presidential Election that an NPP government will make use of funds that are in deposits if the need arises. People who have deposited their monies in banks will be adversely affected in such a scenario,”Wijewardene told a gathering in Attanagalla.

“We request the people send experienced persons to Parliament. This year’s General Election will be a decisive one as it will be a matter of sending able people to Parliament. “NPP’s Gampaha District list comprises a large number of unknown persons except for one or two,” he added.

Mr.Wijewardene visited Sangha Nayaka of Seenadi Sew Korala who was presented with the title ‘Agga Maha Panditha’ title recently in Attanagala.
