Brandix Covid-19 cluster Further investigations not required due to lack of evidence

Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the CID yesterday reported to Court that the Attorney General had informed that it was not required to proceed with further investigations regarding any danger to human life posed by the Minuwangoda Brandix Covid -19 cluster in the absence of evidence to file criminal charges against any party.   


 Minuwangoda Magistrate Kesara Samaradivakara who considered the Attorney General’s report submitted by the CID ended the proceedings in the case.   


 The Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the CID had on November 9, 2020 initiated investigations of any danger caused to human life by the Minuwangoda Covid-19 cluster and submitted a report to the Gampaha Magistrate in response to the Attorney General’s request to the Inspector General of Police in terms of section 393(02) of the Criminal Procedure Code.   


 The CID that investigated the circumstance that led to the COVID-19 infection of more than 1068 employees in the factory to find out whether it was due the negligence of the factory management or the state officials, had submitted its report to the Attorney General.   


 The Attorney General who considered the report had informed the CID that no evidence was available to file criminal charges against any party regarding the incident and that it was not required to proceed with further investigations.
