A stock of red rice stored for use as animal feed was seized by the Consumer Affairs Authority yesterday during a raid carried out on the stores of a foreign company at
Ekala in Jaela.
The Gampaha District CAA investigation unit carried out the raid on information received by CAA Chairman Retired Mjr Gen. Shanha Dissanayaka.
Chief Investigation Officer Pradeep Kaluthararachchi said the stock of 31,000 kilos of red rice seized during the raid was valued more than Rs.2.9 million. They said the CAA had prohibited by Gazette notification on July 23, 2020 the use of any kind of rice fit for human consumption as forage. He said the seized stock of rice was sealed pending legal action against the company.
