Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) yesterday unanimously approved a resolution to transfer the current Municipal Commissioner Roshini Dissanayake with immediate effect.
UNP Member of CMC Mahendra de Silva who proposed the resolution said the Commissioner has prevented the Council members from carrying out their services to rate payers in the city. “She had also absented herself from the finance committee many times and had prevented the committee from taking important decisions,” he said.
UPFA Member Tony Ramzi placed a wreath in front of the desk where the commissioner was seated. However Mayor Rosy Senanayake ordered that it be taken out of the chamber at that time. “I placed a wreath in front of Ms Dissanayake as I believe that the CMC had died a natural death because of her,” Mr. Ramzi said.
JVP Member Hemantha Weerakoon said the CMC should perform their duty towards the rate payers rather than engaging in any unwanted activities.
SLPP Members Sunanda Pathirana also criticized the Commissioner saying she has no experience in administration. “Even the Western province Governor does not have any experience in administration. One cannot work with officers such as the governor and the Municipal Commissioner,” he said.
