Police have initiated an investigation into an incident where a fish vendor has dumped a COVID-19 positive patient on a roadside in Hanwella after his attempt to hide the patient in a house in Avissawella failed.

The patient, an 18-year-old youth and the fish vendor had undergone PCR tests as the fish vendor had bought fish days ago from Peliyagoda fish market where a huge COVID-19 cluster was detected.

They had been advised by the health authorities to undergo quarantine at the fish vendor’s house until the results of the PCR tests are received. When the fish vendor received information that the youth has contracted coronavirus he had taken him to a house in Avissawella to hide him but the residents had not agreed to it.
Then the fish vendor had taken the youth to Hanwella and advised him to go home after which the youth had gone to a relative’s house where he was traced by the police.

He was placed under quarantine in the same house while the fish vendor and his family members are undergoing quarantine in their house.
