COVID-19 patient’s father cremated conforming WHO guidelines

DIYAGAHAGE The body of a coronavirus patient’s father was cremated at the Dadalla crematorium in Galle in compliance with WHO regulations on disposal of bodies of COVID-19 victims. The deceased from Kohugoda in Maliduwa off Akuressa had been a paralytic under treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle. His son, a migrant worker who returned from Korea and underwent quarantine at the Kandakadu centre, had attended to him.

The young man who fell ill on April 5 while attending to his father had been admitted to the Kamburugamuwa Hospital only to find that he had contracted the virus. He was later transferred to IDH in Mulleriyawa. Meanwhile, Professor in Forensic Medicine at the Ruhunu University U.C.P. Perera who performed the postmortem examination reported that the death was due to brain hemorrhage. Several relatives and neighbours of the deceased have been placed under selfquarantine and the Kohugoda village on lockdown. Meanwhile, the police arrested an individual who obstructed the cremation.
