Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Ltd (CPSTL) has managed to unveil a large-scale scandal of theft and reselling furnace oil, its Managing Director Nissanka Jayawardene said yesterday.

CPSTL has launched an investigation when 16,500 litres of furnace oil was missing from a bowser which was carrying a consignment of 33,000 litres to Yugadanavi Power Plant on June 27 this year.

“A bowser which was parked at a location in Pamunugama was recovered by the investigation unit of our organisation. We believe that this was the bowser from which 16,500 litres went missing. The bowser is now in the custody of Pamunugama Police. We believe it is a large-scale scandal,” Jayawardene told Daily Mirror.

“It is the first time that furnace oil has gone missing during transportation,” he added.

He said both police and CPSTL are conducting further investigations on the matter.
