Sri Lanka should engage in talks with Canadian Parliament to prevent the passing of a legislation to declare ‘Tamil Genocide Week ‘ which enables that country to teach students in 4,800 schools about the so called genocide of Tamils during the last stages of the war, Government MP Dr. Suren Raghavan said yesterday.
Dr. Raghavan told Parliament that Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana should work towards forming an SL- Canada Parliamentary Group so that Sri Lanka can take up the issue with Canadian Parliament. “Reconciliation of Tamils and Sinhalese will come to a halt permanently if the Canadian Parliament goes ahead and passes this legislation. I therefore, ask the Canadian MP Vijay Thaniyasalam to engage with us to bring about reconciliation,” the MP said.
