Carcass of leopard found floating in reservoir at Maskeliya

The carcass of a leopard floating in the Canyon reservoir at Maskeliya was recovered by the wildlife conservators from the Nallathanniya wildlife division,   

Range Wildlife Conservator Prabhash Karunatilleka said the water level in the reservoir had risen due to the heavy rain experienced in the western slopes in the central hills and that the leopard may have drowned when it attempted to swim across the reservoir.   

He said he visited the scene on information from the reservoir engineers and recovered the carcass. The official said the well grown feline appeared to be about eight years old and six 
feet long.
