Caused accident and misled police

A driver who caused a fatal accident and attempted to mislead the investigations was arrested by Katugastota police yesterday.  

He had called the Police Emergency Service on 119 and said that an injured man was lying by the roadside at Watuwala on the Kandy – Kurunegala road and that he admitted him to the Kandy National Hospital, but he had succumbed to his injuries two days later.   

The victim was identified as Bhramanagedara Karunaratne (66) of Deegala area.   

Police said during investigations they examined the CCTV recordings at the scene of the accident to find that the individual who informed the Police Emergency 119 about the injured person lying by the roadside was responsible for the accident.
