Central Bank governor has become mouthpiece of Ranil: Nalinda

Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe was making certain statements on the economy to satisfy President Ranil Wickremesinghe, NPP politburo member Nalinda Jayatissa said yesterday.  

He told a news conference that the Central Bank Governor as a doctor and an expert in the field must avoid making statements to please politicians.   Dr. Jayatissa said this in response to a question raised by a journalist on the statement made by Dr. Weerasinghe that the country would have to face repercussions if deviated from the ongoing reform agenda under the IMF agreement.  

“The Central Bank Governor as a doctor and an expert in the field must not utter what politicians say. He must state practical facts using his subject knowledge,” he said.
