Child dies mysteriously while at play in Ingiriya

Ingiriya police informed that a thirteen year old child had died under mysterious circumstances on Monday while playing inside the house with his younger sister.   


The deceased child identified as Sri Kanth Janidu Avishka was an year eight student of the Horana Vidyarathne Pirivena a resident of Ingiriya.   


Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the mother of the deceased child had gone for bathing after entrusting the child to the younger sister. The younger sister had gone near the place where the mother had been bathing and had told her that the brother has fallen asleep suddenly and Phlegm was coming out of his mouth. The mother who had hastened back had seen the child lying on the floor had tried to raise him up and then screamed for help. With the assistance of the neighbours and summoning the Suwaseriya ambulance the child had been taken to the Ingiriya hospital. He was pronounced dead when brought to the hospital.   


The Acting Magistrate of Horana Chandana Wijesuriya conducted the inquest and directed the police to conduct the autopsy at the Horana base hospital. The officer-in- charge of scene of crime office of the Panadura division SI Ruwan Kumara and SI Abeykoon assisted the inquiries.
