Civil life in the Dambulla town was back to normal yesterday, after the lifting of the curfew, while Dambulla Economic Centre received large stocks of vegetables and fruits. The price of vegetables showed a sharp drop in price. The prices of several varieties of vegetables varied between Rs.10/- and 20/- while others were between Rs.30/- and 40/- per kg. Carrots were selling at between Rs.60/- to 80/- a kg while the price of leeks varied between Rs. 70/- and 80/- a kilo.
However, the President of the Traders Association -Channa Rewla- said all stocks of vegetables were sold. All business activities in the town were in full swing with shops, groceries, bakeries and salons in the town being open. But thousands of long distance passengers were stranded for want of buses on those routes.
Vegetable farmers said they had a bumper harvest and were able to meet the requirements of the consumer without any difficulty.
