Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala ordered CID to show cause as to why a suspect who allegedly shared a video in the Face-book was not charged under cyber crimes but under Prevention of Terrorism Act.     The Magistrate made this observation when President’s Counsel Upul Jayasuriya appearing with Senior Counsel Gunaratna Wanninayaka for the suspect contended that the CID in order to satisfy the politicians, had filed reports in Court under the PTA  to remand the suspect for an interminable period of time.

Hence the Magistrate ordered the CID to show cause and remarked that if the CID behaved in that manner, they will have to face the consequences in future in courts.    The suspect- Matale Municipal Council Deputy Chairman Bandara Ekanayake was remanded on a complaint of sharing in the Face-book a visual of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and some other Parliamentarians with the Islamic terrorists
The suspect was remanded till March 23.
