Government should consider guidelines stipulated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on deciding with regard to the last rights of Muslim COVID -19 victims as opinions of others does not matter, an SJB Muslim MP said yesterday.
SJB MP Kabir Hashim told a press conference yesterday that what matters with regard to last rights of Muslim COVID victims are the guide lines stipulated by WHO and the official stand which the Government takes on the issue. “What matters is the official stand which the government takes with regard to the matter and not the stand of the Opposition. The guidelines stipulated by the WHO should also be considered,” the MP said.
“Can we expect the government to come up with a decision with regard to a complex matter when a simple decision on distribution of rice and other essential goods has become a difficult task,” he added. He said the Opposition expects that the committee appointed to look into allowing burials for Muslim COVID-19 victims will come up with a proper recommendation on the issue.
On a different note Mr. Hashim said the Government had failed in sustaining the economy amidst the pandemic. He said the state revenue is expected to reduce by 10 per cent by the end of the year.
