It is only the Coronavirus that could stand in the National Election Commission’s way preventing the holding of the Parliamentary election on April 25 as scheduled, Chairman of the Election Commission (EC) said on Friday.

He called on the people to act according to the healthcare officials in order to create an environment where election would not be postponed. While emphasizing that it was important to prevent the spread of coronavirus and all individuals with signs of coronavirus should be quarantined in accordance with the necessary instructions and it would be the best practice to get rid of coronavirus from the country.

“I have received complaints regarding certain media institutions breaching guidelines issued by the Election Commission and government officials being involved in politics and government’s vehicles being used for political purposes. We have stopped these things by today,” he said.

Furthermore, the Chairman said that certain political parties have already decided not to have public meetings for two weeks and the people should be protected in order to proceed with the election.
