Corruption case against Keheliya, two others postponed

The corruption case filed against former Minister Keheliya Rambukwella and two others was postponed for October 6 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne yesterday.   

The case was filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against the three  suspects for causing a  loss to the government by purchasing  600  GI pipes using Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation’s (SLRC) funds during the previous Presidential Election.   

Counsel Niroshan Siriwardena appearing with Chalana Vidanange and Sayuru Vithanage for the suspects informed the Magistrate that President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa who was to appear for the suspects in the case was ill and cannot attend court for the case and sought a further date for the case.   

Hence the court fixed October 6 to hear the case.   

 The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed charges against former Minister Rambukwella, former SLRC Director General Chandrapala Liyanage and former SLRC Chairman Wimal Rubasinghe under Section 70 of the Bribery Act against the three  for incurring a loss of Rs.990,000 to the SLRC by purchasing 600 of GI pipes on or around December 2, 2014.
