Against the backdrop of the World Health Organization (WHO) announcing a coronavirus epidemic, the Sri Lanka Navy is conducting various programmes to curb the spread of the virus in public places as well as in private sector establishments going by the directives of Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva. The Navy’s initiatives are being focused on strengthening the joint mechanism implemented by the government, to fight this virus. Meanwhile, the Eastern and Western Naval Command has developed full-body disinfection chambers so that people could be sanitized so as to prevent any infection by the deadly virus.
Depending on the prevailing situation in the country, Naval personnel are engaged in essential services outside
naval bases. They will be in turn disinfected on their return to work on the basis that maintaining a hygienic environment in the camp is mandatory to maintain the healthy human resource of the Navy at this testing time.
