DMT Werahera Services to come under Army: Lokuge

The issuing of driving licences and all related operations conducted at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), Werahera branch would be done under the supervision of the Sri Lanka Army from January 2021, Transport Minister Gamini Lokuge said. 


After an inspection visit at the DMT Werahera Branch on Friday (13) by the Transport Minister and State Minister Dilum Amunugama said the decision taken following a sudden visit of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Department to inspect the difficulties faced by people when issuing driving licences.   


Minister Lokuge said all activities related to issuing driving licences would be handed over to the SL Army by next week.   


He said action would be taken to link all other Provinces with the Werahera branch.  Operations of the private company which was currently contracted for the services, would be handed over to the Army from next week, Minister Lokuge said.
