Decision on opening Govt. schools before mid June

A decision to open government schools will be taken within the first two weeks of June and all sports activities of the country including cricket will be resumed on June 1st, Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said yesterday.  


Minister Alahapperuma added that the team of top health and education officials, police and military top brass held a crucial meeting on Wednesday (27) to explore the possibility of opening schools as early as possible and had submitted a report to him.   


“I will brief President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and also the cabinet on the recommendations of the team of officials. A final decision would be taken by the government to open schools after reviewing the situation in the country and obtaining the advice of the health and security authorities.
