Detained for attempting to smuggle mobile phones

The Maligakanda Magistrate ordered to detain four suspects, arrested over smuggling mobile phones and several other items into the Colombo Magazine Prison, for seven days, the Police said. The Borella Police initially recovered a suspicious parcel near the Colombo prison’s wall.   


The police found a mobile phone, a mobile charger and several narcotics substances including 11.5 grams of heroin in the parcel upon inspection.  


Following further investigation, the police arrested four suspects on Friday evening at Seevali Pura, Borella on possession of 9 grams of heroin.  


On further interrogation of the suspects, the police recovered several items including three mobile phones, 119 batteries, 21 mobile chargers, medicines and various narcotics substances which the suspects were planning to hand over to the inmates.  


The suspects, aged between 28 and 42 identified as residents of Borella. They would be detained till July 2 for further interrogation.
