The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday requested the politicians not to use the COVID-19 epidemic situation for mere political gain, ahead of the General Election.
Speaking at a media briefing yesterday GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge request all government and opposition members to keep in mind and act with concern with the instant decisions taken by the Health Ministry.
Also, he requested the government to locate the Italian tourist group and send them to a quarantine centre if they are still in the country. It was clear that the guide was infected from a person among the group who had the virus, he said. The GMOA had warned the health officials, about having corporate quarantine requirements. But the situation worsened as immediate action to initiate quarantine procedures in the country was delayed due to objections from several politicians and the delay in identifying suitable quarantine centres, Dr. Aluthge said.
