Driver posing as Police SI arrested

An man posing as a Sub Inspector of Police who had been responsible for a series of frauds was arrested by the Western Province (South) Crime Investigation Division during a raid in Pannipitiya.   

Police said they carried out the raid on information received from a private informant during a search operation to arrest wanted suspect. Investigations revealed that the suspect had rented out a house in Polwatta in Pannipitiya about a year ago and had told his landlord that he was a senior police officer and had posted his photo in police uniform  in the face book. However investigations revealed that he was a driver of a construction company.    The suspect who pleaded guilty when produced before Nugegoda Magistrate Prasanna Alwis , was released on personal bail in Rs.200,000. A Police team under OIC Western Province (South ) Crime Investigation Division CI M.A.L.S.Munasinghe and IP Hamantha Kumara is conducting further investigations on the instructions of SP Rohan Perera and Director Crime Investigation Division SSP Lalith Abeysekara .
