A number of Policemen serving in the Eastern Province, had becomes wealthy by taking bribe to cover up the incidents related to extremism, Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thera said yesterday.

Speaking to the media he said this situation was getting worse considering the behaviour of Islamic Wahhabism spreading in the Eastern Province.

Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities living in the Eastern Province come to meet us

“Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities living in the Eastern Province come to meet us seeking help for injustice done by the Police in the area. They come to meet us and say that they could not accept a fair justice from the Police as they had already been induced by the Muslim Extremism,” he said.

“Twenty two Muslims who worked against Sharia Law had already been killed and buried. But the Police and responsible authorities, including the country’s intelligence service, are not aware of those murders. The Eastern Police Department, has recorded the murders as disappearances,” the Thera said. The majority of the Police personnel on duty in the Eastern Province do not take much interest in what is happening in the area claiming that they were on punishment transfers and they were in of fear of having another punishment transfer if they got involved in cases,” he said.

“People come and complain that they cannot expect justice from any of the Police officers as they accept bribes to cover up the activities of extremism,” he said.

“Therefore, the BBS request the Acting IGP and Defence Secretary to conduct an impartial  investigation over the actions of the Eastern Province Police Department for not taking action to provide justice to the people in the area,” he said.
