Education TV channel ‘Guru Gedara’ launched

The Education Ministry  launched a new TV Channel ‘Guru Gedera’ in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation yesterday (20). The aim of the programme to strengthen the education process of school children in the country.  


The channel was launched under the guidance of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The  ‘Guru Gedera’ is a concept of Education Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, with  support from Minister of Higher Education  Bandula Gunawardana.  


The Channel will be another contribution of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) to the education of the island’s children.  


With the  launch of the channel yesterday (20), children will have the opportunity to utilise educational programmes between 8.00 a.m to 7.00 pm and again between 10.00 pm to 12.00 midnight on a daily basis.  


With the launching of ‘Guru Gedera’ on April 20,  programmes will broadcast regularly  the Education Ministry said.  


This new  educational channel will cover, syllabuses for the Advanced Level (A/L) Arts,  Commerce, Science, Information Technology and Telecommunication Technology.
Among subjects covered in the A/L Arts syllabus will be Sinhala and Tamil Languages, Geography, Political Science and Buddhist Culture. While Accounts, Business Studies and Economic Science will be covered under the A/L Commerce syllabus. 


The A/L Science syllabus will cover Combined Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, while  Engineering Technology, BioSystems Technology will be covered under the A/L 
Technology syallabus. 


The subjects of Agriculture, Information Technology and Telecommunication Technology will also be covered.  


The new channel will also schedule broadcast programs coveringing students studying for the GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) exam.  


The channel  isdesigned to cover O/L subjects such as Sinhala, Tamil, English, Mathematics, Science and History.  


In addition the channel will broadcast discussions in the Sinhala and Tamil languages for  O/L students, with  participation of lecturers attached to the Sri Lanka Examinations Department.  
The University Grants Commission (UGC), Skills Development Ministry, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission will also participate in developing the channel and its programmes together with the Education Ministry, the Higher Education Ministry and is expected to broadcast these educational programmes at 10.00 pm daily.
