An expelled police inspector and his driver were arrested last evening while they were transporting 132 kilos of Kerala ganja valued at Rs.40 million from Mannar to Anuradhapura, police said.
They were arrested by the police at a roadblock in Medawachchiya on information received by Navy intelligence officers.
Initial investigations revealed that the stock of Kerala ganja was transported from Parayanakulam in Mannar.
Police said the stock of ganja had been concealed in the boot of the car.
They said the expelled police inspector (51) was from Gagasiripura and his driver (50) from Anuradhapura.
The suspects will be produced in the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court today.
