Extreme weather: one dead, 136,607 affected

A total of 136,607 people from 35,000 families were affected in most parts of the country including areas in Southern, Western and Central provinces while reporting one death from the Southern Province, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.   


Issuing a situation report yesterday the department said 2,572 houses were damaged and about 65 houses were damaged beyond repair.   


In the Southern province 41,203 people from 10,920 families were affected from floods, landslides and high wind conditions due to heavy rainfall. About 23,069 people were from the Galle District while 70 people were from the Hambantota District.   


One death was reported from Galle following a landslide in the Wanduramba area.
