Failure to set up LNG power plant CEB suffers loss of Rs.250 million

 A staggering Rs. 250 million loss has been incurred by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) since 2016 due to the failure by the relevant authorities to set up a power plant in Kerawalapitiya .   
This was revealed at a discussion held between Passenger Transport Management, Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and the CEB. It was pointed out at the meeting that a monthly profit of Rs. 66,000 million could be generated, if the power plant was constructed.   


Construction of an LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas). Power Plant was undertaken by Ceylon Electricity Board together with Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.The power plant was scheduled to be constructed in 2016. However, now, it has been scheduled to commenced next month and would be completed in the year 2020.   


Minister Amaraweera appealed all stakeholders not to sabotage the construction, citing external reasons or obstruct construction works once the construction commenced.
